waiting for spring with my bucket bag

It’s a little puzzling that spring is here when it’s still so chilly, I guess it just hasn’t sprung yet. I turned my closet from winter to spring this past week and I can’t wait to start wearing t-shirt dresses and shorts soon. I’ve pulled out my favorite casual sneaker and ready for some sunshine.
But I really can’t wait to start carrying my summer bags–tote bags, white bags, and colorful bags! I love my new bag from Urban Expressions and can’t wait to circulate it all spring and summer. I’ve never carried a bucket bag before but I’m loving it so far.

urban expressions bucket bagsThe bag has a detachable long strap which I love. It’s so easy as you bop around town, carrying groceries in the house or other bags, it just feels out of the way.urban expressions bucket bag coral and whiteThe bag comes in several colors but I love how the corally red portion, which is really a burlap sort of texture, contrasts with the white (faux) leather. All of Urban Expressions bags are vegan so the material is animal free. But I have to say this bag is very soft–I was really surprised how soft and durable this bag felt even without being leather. I tend to carry around a lot of stuff so its helpful to be able to dump it all in. Points for the bucket bag.bucket bagurban essentials bucket bag
I’ve always felt that the leather bucket bag looks a little 90’s mom…but the 90’s are back and I have a vegan leather bucket bag. No shame here!urban expressions bucket bag coralsummer 2015 Jcrew striped pocket dress, urban expressions bag c/o, slip-on converse

What spring bags are you looking at bringing out in the next few weeks?

blueberry picking at terhune orchards

I’ve done a few posts on how much I love Terhune Orchards before (here and here). If you are in the Princeton, New Jersey area you should definitely check it out. We headed out to the farm to pick some blueberries for the West Windsor Farmers Market Blueberry Pie contest that I’m participating in.

The farm has so many different areas that you can “pick your own” but we hit up the blueberry patch. It’s a little bit intimidating deciphering which ones are the best to pick but it was fun going up and down the aisles and finding little patches are darker ripe blueberries. blueberry pick you own - terhune orchardsIt was fun until we were sweating and beetles and other swarming creatures kept coming at us. Luckily we ended up having plenty of blueberries for my pie and headed over to the farm store for apple cider donuts.

the bent spoon – princeton, nj

sorbet at the bent spoon

One of my favorite things growing up is when we would approach our exit coming from school and on my favorite days my Grandpa would say, “should we stop and get a blizzard?” or “I think we really need some ice cream today”. I would eagerly await and see if he said it or if we would just go home. But the days he said it were the absolute best!  Conversations are best served over ice cream. These days I live from from any Dairy Queen but Princeton offers a good substitute in The Bent Spoon.

The location is right in Palmer Square across the street from the University and its always packed! There’s virtually no seating indooors but its perfect to grab an ice cream (or sorbet) and walk around the square and peruse the shops.

Why is it that ice cream sounds good in freezing temps? We braved the outside bench for a while until it was just too frigid to enjoy.

They offer up crazy concoctions (cardamon cinnamon), old faithfuls (vanilla salt caramel or mint chocolate) and new spins on things (NJ honey ice cream..) You can check out what flavors they are currently rotating by checking out their Twitter.

princeton : the farmhouse store

We found the cutest store in Princeton! The Farmhouse Store is located in Palmer Square right next to the parking garage and Mediterra restaurant. We never park on that side of the garage so I haven’t never seen it before. I am literally kicking myself for not knowing about it. Browsing around I found so many wonderful pieces and Paula who was working was so kind and helpful.

First a look around…

They have tons of amazing items, candles, pillows, scarves, knick knacks that are adorable and rustic without looking at all cheesy. But what is most impressive is their furniture. You can see a table a little bit here and the large hutch in the background. To quote their brochure, “At The Farmhouse Store, we honor the great heritage of the American settlers who first timbered this land by reclaiming antique barnwood to create beautiful furniture built to enjoy forever.”

I found this perfect haven while waiting for JPS to get off of work, I couldn’t believe we had ever seen it before. I loved this New Jersey pillow – it even has a heart over where we live! After we met up he wanted to see the shop and he thought we needed to buy it!

We can’t wait to come back after we buy our first house (!!!!) to buy some one of a kind timeless furniture. I also can’t wait to purchase some candles – fresh thyme, heirloom tomato… that is central New Jersey!

PJ Pancake House

photo-2

Yesterday counted as a staycation day. Although, it would really be a staycation day if I could really unplug from work, but that never happens. Because people call my personal cell and send me messages on facebook and my work phone is just staring at me with what I can only assume are lots of unread emails…. and then I feel guilty. Can no one ever take a day to rejuvenate? And can we not allow someone to take a day (or should I say give ourselves the ability too) unplug and recharge so they can feel their best? We all (read: the whole human race) need to be better about that.

JPS and I have been wanting to try PJ’s Pancake House (they own the domain pancakes.com, this is serious business). They are located in the heart of Princeton, literally across the street from Princeton University. The line is always outrageous so we’ve never been able to go… or feel like we wanted to brave the line. Knowing that I took the day off we dropped his car off at the dealership and took advantage of the Princeton kids being in class and the post-grad fare of Princeton at work! It was small, quiet and delicious!

JPS ordered corn pancakes..that had real kernels of corn in them while I opted for the strawberries pancakes. They were really delicious (but how do you screw up a pancake?). They have a spicy apple and another that is potato pancakes… I think those might be what I try next!

This weekend we were lucky enough for JPS to get off work early so we were able to spend some time together. We decided to talk a walk at the Princeton Canal and it was so beautiful! It was refreshing to see the sun actually out and no dark gloom. Last time we were there was last January and we were talking about getting married… we’ve  certainly come a long way- we’ve now been married over 6 months!

Hope you had a taste of spring this weekend!
