Back with this weeks nail polish favorites!
After School Boy Blazer : This navy is SO good. It’s especially gorgeous coated with gelous because it gets soooo shiny. Its oddly chic and comes off much more professional than you can imagine.
Watermelon : This is a perky bold pink and really can cheer you up! The color is strong and not at all streaky making it easy to wear.
I’ve mentioned that I love nail polish before and I thought I share my current favorites and my mani/pedi pairs.
First up, Bahama Mama is this amazingly deep creamy plumb color. With two coats its so deep you can’t realllly tell the color at first glance, but it has a beautiful color to it that is definitely brighter than the blacks, browns, and burgundy’s so commonly found in the winter. Second is my favorite red, A List. It’s the perfect feminine red that makes you feel like you can take on the world. This color is also rich and creamy, great for winter!
I’m feeling the itch to change colors, so I’ll update these soon!
One of my most consistent memories growing up is going to the nail salon with my mom and grandmother. I would read magazines or work on homework and even though I rarely got my painted there it always looked like such a glamourous experience. They were friends with the woman and her salon was out of her home so it was cozy and warm with everyone chatting… and she had two huge chow chows and I would love to catch a glimpse of them roaming the house like lions!
Today I have more nail polishes than I can probably count but I just love changing colors – its really relaxing for me. I have a quiet the steady hand from lots of practice but nail polish doesn’t generally stay on me well, it begins to chip and peel.
This faux gel nail hack is awesome. I’ve seen about 5 variations of this floating around the pinterest but I’ve cut some corners and I think it looks just as shiny and lasts several days without chipping. The gelous gives you this amazing shiny coat – its thicker than nail polish and provides the perfect base. I usually put on two coats of gelous before its really has a chance to dry, and then let it dry before i put my polish color, wait for that coat to dry before the out the door top coat. Doing the coats too quickly will result in bubbles so be sure to let subsequent layers dry.
I love this color – Geranium from Essie!
I’ve also really loving this quick dry nail polish spray from Target. It’s just a few dollars, smells like baby powder but really helps set your nail polish when you are in a hurry!
Have you tried your own DIY gel nails?
I have been trying the Essie Apricot Cuticle Oil- I’ve had my eye on a few of these types of oils/creams/lotions. I was hesitant to try a couple of the brands after less than impressive results on their other products.
I have always had a dry cuticles, hangnails- you know all of those terrible side effects from typing, doing dishes and cold weather. The box says to use it two times a day which I imagined to mean that you may need it on constantly for it to actually work. Luckily, this is not the case! I’ve been applying it about 1-2 times a day and I’ve seen a marked difference in my hands!
It has an apricot smell that smells slightly perfume-like with a touch of fresh apricot(versus have just eaten one and have leftover scent from the fruit). Its light and leaves very little residue I’m so pleased with it, it doesn’t just heal, but it seems to be preventing all of the dryness.
