summer reading on a budget

We are headed to OBX this weekend and I’ve got another book I’ve just started. I have been in a reading funk and finally decided to start looking at some things to read on my Nook. Unfortunately Nook books are full-price! Explain to my why you can’t use Barnes & Noble coupons on those books!

Anyway, I had read online that you could download library books on your ereader so…I got a library card last week! I’m a bit at the mercy of what the mercer county library’s have available (I’m on a waitlist for most of these) and I’ve been searching out what exactly they have available digitally or what I need to get in hardcopy. My summer reading wish list isn’t quite the order I would have planned, but for free? I’ll take it!

I’ve heard great things about The Vacationers and I just started reading it. Have you read it?

Big Little Lies – book recommendation

I just finished Big Little Lies in about 4 days…which is saying a lot because its about 450 pages! But I really could not put it down. This is such a great summer read and will keep you turning page after page. The story jumps back and forth in time surrounding a school’s trivia night. You get to know some of the characters as they share their version of certain events. Oddly, its not confusing and really lets you see how people think about one another and their motivations. It’s a bit of a mystery because you really only know that someone dies (!!!!) – such a good read!

I’ve taken a hiatus from reading…I haven’t been found anything to keep me hooked. I’ve been reading Mrs Queen takes the Train, but I could only get about 65% invested in the book. Although, I do love that its truly modelled after the royal family.

I’ve got my Nook charged and I’m ready to dive into some good summer reads. I’ve crafted a list of some books that I think will help clear the drought.

The Girl on the Train : All I need to know is that is as crazy as Gone Girl and I’m in…

The Status of all Things : What if your Facebook status dictated what happened in real life…

Luckiest Girl Alive : I got this recommendation from Reese Witherspoon’s instagram. She raved about it and is producing it as a movie!

After I Do : A married couple decides to spend a year apart with no contact to decide if their relationship can last…

Maybe in Another Life : Ever wonder what could happen if you made a different choice? This book shows both paths her life could have taken!

Crazy Rich Asians : What if your boyfriend was an extreme sort of wealthy and asia’s most eligible bachelor?

I’m diving into The Girl on the Train and I’m sure it won’t last the two weeks until vacation! What’s on your summer reading list? Have you read any of these?

Photos that didn’t exist…

Have you seen this? I think its so true!

I would even say this should be entitled pictures we didn’t take before instagram. Why do we all feel so compelled to take pictures of our food, every sign and everything that is slightly funny or that we can think of a funny caption for. I do not take selfies, so I cannot subscribe to need to take them. But I certainly can claim the rest of these- why yes Martha Washington is looking especially dashing today the world MUST see her.

Whats your guiltiest photo pleasure?

Just Finished! Where’d You Go Bernadette

With a job that requires a lot of travel, my dear husband bought me a Nook for Christmas so I can reduce the bulk that I’m carrying through airports. I do have to say that I love it and use it a ton, even more than I had expected. I finally feel like I can spend time reading without carrying the bulk of books around with me and its easy to grab it and through it in my purse. In my effort to bulk up my reading I have been doing some research on the “it” books and stumbled across Where’d You Go Bernadette- you may have heard of it already as its been on tons of best-selling lists and book clubs.

I loved this book! It was an easy read but truly interesting- looking at a family dynamic where the mother is troubled after much loss in her life, the father is consumed with his job and their daughter is a gifted, peculiar and exceptionally smart. Its funny, reflective and surprisingly relatable. I felt a little empty when it was over, I wished there was a little more. But I guess thats what a good book leaves you  feeling like! I just read that the rights to the book were sold for a movie! I can’t wait to see it portrayed on the big screen!

Have you read this book? If not, you can read a teaser or order it here.
