New Orleans

I am lucky enough to been able travel frequently for work but its usually to the same general places. I recently attended a conference in New Orleans, my first time there, and my first time to really explore a city alone. I know understand why people travel alone…because its awesome.

Jackson Square, New Orleans

Here are some of my recommendations from my brief stay.

Hotel: I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott and it was so convenient. I definitely recommend staying there, its just a few blocks away from the French Quarter, quiet and clean! The only weird thing is that my room had no windows to the outdoors, only out into the interior of the hotel.

Food: I found Chartres House on Yelp a couple of weeks before I arrived. It’s located right off Jackson Square on Chartres. You can see more about Chartres House here. My table looked right out onto the street, hence the scary van in the picture. The food was amazing and I only wish I had more people with me to split and try more things. I think that’s the worst thing about traveling alone!

Golden Local Eats: Atlanta

When Andrea met up with me in Atlanta, we darted straight from the airport to Sun in My Belly. Could you think of a more divine name?

They are rumored to have the best bacon in town… I mean look at it!

We decided to split two plates as we couldn’t decide. Above, and in my opinion better a PLTB (pimento cheese, lettuce, fried green tomato and bacon sandwich). You can also get egg on it (whaaat!). We also got the Challah French Toast with bananas foster– it was good but that sandwich was beyond.

IMG_0209The entire restaurant is super enchanting and chic.

I definitely can’t wait for my next visit to Atlanta!

Golden Local Eats: Company Cafe, Dallas

I am one of the fortunate ones that get to travel frequently for work. Now I understand,  that everyone wouldn’t enjoy this as much as I do, but I believe its a must in keeping me sane. A job thats simply a desk job, just isn’t for me. I need to be out and about, talking, meeting and doing things. One of the perks, besides getting just to network, I get the opportunity to see new places and get a taste of the local cuisine. I will highlight these in Golden Local Eats– but I can’t promise I won’t be drooling the whole time I’m writing…and dreaming of going back to all the places I’ve found!

This past weekend I was in Dallas, Texas with Steffanie, shes recently gluten-free (not by choice, unfortunately), but we were able to find an awesome gluten-free restaurant,Company Cafe. Steff was excited to get a gluten-free bun burger and I had the best fish tacos which had the biggest kick of flavor- AND had goat cheese on them! We got to dine outside on huge picnic tables under large strings of bulbed lights. It looked perfectly southern and a great summer night (in the spring). I cannot say enough good things about it!

They have a few different locations, but I would definitely recommend stopping by if you are in Dallas. Don’t these look scrumptious?
