We had the best weekend exploring Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kennebunkport Maine!  As we were driving into town we were already plotting our way to come back. The town is SO charming and the shops people are kind and the other tourists are polite and clean! HAve you ever been where they are not? It’s truly a thing to note! I did some research on things to do before we went (see how I do it here) and it couldn’t have been a better day.

Shop: There are so many cute shops along the way. Local Color might have had my favorite stuff. We bought framed art from a local artist at The Port. I especially liked that I only saw maybe 3 stores with tchotchkes in it. Most of the shops are carefully curated and not touristy.

Get a lobster roll. It was so hot when we tried to get them at The Clam Shack (where everyone raves about) I just gave up. The line was so long and not moving and everyone in line (us included) were dripping sweat. I did a quick check on Yelp and saw Alisson’s had great reviews and wasn’t as formal as some of the restaurants in town and was indoors, unlike The Clam Shack. They have a petite lobster roll that comes with clam chowder and fresh chips. It was SO good. ocean avenue kennebunkport
These views though!walkers pointe bush compound
Take a drive on Ocean Ave. The road goes past Walker’s Pointe (above) Walker as in George Herbert Walker Bush AKA the Bush compound. You can pull off and see it and it’s actually very close. It’s gorgeous but I dont think its the most gorgeous house you see on the road; there are so many impressive ones. The great thing about this drive is the road is circular and leads you right back into town! allison's restaurant kennebunkport

Parking: There is a fair amount of free street parking but they were all taken when we arrived so we parked behind Alisson’s Restaurant in the public parking. It was $3/hour and super convenient to everything. When we got there on Saturday at 11am there was plenty of spots but when we were leaving in the afternoon cars were stalking people to grab their space.fresh lemonade kennebunkport
You must get fresh lemonade – its soooo good and especially refreshing when its so hot!

  1. I CANNOT handle the perfectness of this town! Your pics are straight off a postcard or a Nicholas Sparks novel if he wrote about small towns in Maine and not North Carolina, haha. Maine is a state I’ve never been to yet and have on my short list of see-sooner-than-later and this looks so charming. I am in love. You’ve convinced me!
