This was our third summer going to the Outerbanks for vacation so I thought I’d share. These suggestions are based on where we stay in Corolla or Duck. I’m not a fan of Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills–it’s super touristy, not authentic* and overall tacky looking. Not where I would go but some people are really into that.
The Paper Canoe:
We love this restaurant! It’s super small and you need to call early in the week to get a reservation. We love their salads and flatbreads. It’s casual but a step up from most of the restaurants around.
Tim Buck II:
This is sort of like a mall, its rows of shops and restaurants. I love the ice cream at Big Bucks. Grays and The Cotton Gin have good things, including t-shirts, knick knacks, etc. but my favorite shop here is The Cottage Shop they have the cutest coastal home things.
These are the best! You choose your frosting and toppings and they come out SO fresh. If you are in the Duck/Corolla area the Duck shop has a much longer line than the Corolla shop. Just FYI!
*I only like to go places that seem authentic, like real people live there and there is a vibe other than ~TOURIST~. I want to see a town’s real culture and not be clouded by miniture golf, souvenir shops and chain restaurants.
